I did
mention that there were two 70th birthdays
The next
connection
Once upon a
time there was a young lad called Rocky Douche.
He flew to
Fame as an engineer, working at Radio New Zealand.
The engineer in fact, supporting Neville Chamberlain. aka Cham the Man
Rocky adopted the
moniker, Sound Hound Rocky Douche, how glamorous was that?
For the first
time "the engineer" had a profile.
They were very famous in Wellington
I found this photo courtesy of a blog called "the gilly" click here to link in
Brilliant. Obviously a competition around Elvis. There they are counting the entries
From there,
he began working in a recording studio,
Radio and TV commercials were becoming big business.
One Dale
Wrightson ,who was writing commercials, starting using Rocky for all of his work
(as did loads of the Gun Agencies) and a great friendship was born
When Rocky
branched out on his own, Dale suggested that he used Pete Burt to design his
logo and Marmalade was born with the Fab Grinning Marmalade Cat
Once again another
long living friendship was born with Rocky and his wife Jeannie'Above; American Joyce Baker, who we met at Club Med with Peter and Glenys Burt in 1979
pictured with Rocky and Dale at Club Mac Waikane, hosted by Jeannie and Roger MacDonnell in the 80's
That;s another story of course
Joyce is a regular visitor to NZ since she met us and she adds to the connection
So 70th
Birthday number two.
We spent
the morning with the previous night’s guests, Brunch in fact and we were a
little late for Rocky’s party but we did some great catching up, I was a bit
remiss with my camera and only managed a couple of photos.
Lovely shot
of Rocky, Birthday Boy and Jeannie
A quiet
night with Terry and Barbara and next morning we left Wellington.
Found this photo of our two 70 year olds... taken probably about 20 years ago
They really haven't changed much.
